Clippers Soar Into ECC Finals With 5-0 Win over Queens

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team defeated the Knights of Queens College 5-0 today in the East Coast Conference semi-finals at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY.  The Clippers will square off against the winner of the other East Coast Conference semi-final, pitting second seeded Mercy College against third seeded Dowling College.

Concordia started off with a 2-0 lead in the match, by default, as Queens came into the semi-final with only 5 players. Junior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and freshman Alex Grubin (Serbia)  were victorious at #1 doubles by a 8-3 score. Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) defeated Jimmy Delevante and Costas Efstathiou 8-4 at #2 doubles. Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany) and John Cassas (Bogota, Colombia) won by default at #3 doubles.

With the sweep in doubles play at the default win at #6 singles, the Clippers need ed only one win in singles competition to claim the win and Grubin came through with a 6-1, 6-1 win to seal the win.

The finals of the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships will be hosted by Concordia College on Saturday, April 21st, at the Meyers Tennis Center and will begin at 10:00 AM.
