Clippers Engulf Men's Tennis All-Conference Team
Harrison, NY - Concordia College placed five players on the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis All-Conference Team, as voted on by the conference head coaches.
Freshman Alex Grubin (Belgrade, Serbia) was named Rookie of the Year for the East Coast Conference. Grubin has an impessive record of 7-1 in singles and 8-2 in doubles, all at the #1 position. Grubin has twice been named Rookie of the Week in the East Coast Conference and is currently ranked 50th in Division II and 3rd in the East Region. Joining Grubin on the East Coast Conference First Team are junior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) and sophomore Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain). Teixeira has an overall record of 9-3 in singles competition and 14-2 in doubles play. Teixeira is ranked 6th in the East Region, and along with Grubin, are ranked 4th in the East Region in doubles. Molet is also 9-3 in singles competition and 7-0 in doubles on the year. Molet is currently 4th in the East Region.
On the East Coast Conference Second Team is junior Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and freshman Nik Boerger (Muenster, Germany). Azovtsev is 7-5 in singles play and 7-4 in doubles competition. Azovtsev and junior Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) team up to form the 5th ranked doubles team in the East Region. Boerger also turned in a brilliant freshman campaign with an 8-3 singles record and a 12-2 doubles record.
Head Coach Neil Tarangioli has been named East Coast Conference Coach of the Year. Tarangioli is completing his 25th season at the helm of the Clippers and had guided Concordia to it's highest Division II National Ranking (16th) this season.
