Men's Tennis Earns Top Seed in ECC Tournament
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's tennis team will be the top seed in the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Tournament which begins on Friday, April 20th. The Clippers will host the #4 seed Knights of Queens College in one semi-final at the Meyers Tennis Center at 2:30 PM. The other semi-final has the #2 seed Mercy College Flyers hosting the #3 seed Golden Lions of Dowling College. The finals will be held on Saturday, April 21st at the highest remaining seed. The starting time will be announced at a later date.
The Clippers defeated Queens College 7-2 last weekend in Flushing, NY in the final weekend before the conference tournament. Concordia were undefeated in the ECC this season with a 5-0 record. In those five contests, the Clippers went a combined 40-5 in singles and doubles competition.
Concordia is in the midst of their best men's tennis season since joining the NCAA. The Clippers have won 8 straight matches and are 13-2 overall. The Clippers are ranked 16th in the Nation in Division II and 1st in the East Region. Freshman Alex Grubin (Serbia) is ranked 50th in the country and 3rd in the East Region in singles play. Sophomore Josep Molet (Sabadell, Spain) and junior Rodrigo Teixeira (Vitoria, Brazil) are ranked 4th and 6th in the East Region, respectively, in singles competition. Teixeira and Grubin also rank 4th in doubles. Kirill Azovtsev (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Vlad Malkin (Moscow, Russia) are right behind Teixeira and Grubin at #5 in doubles in the East Region.
