Concordia Wins Important Game against Chestnut Hill, 5-2

Purchase, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's soccer team was back in action today as they faced Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Chestnut Hill College. After a hard fought battle in yesterday's match against Felician, the Clippers continued with the same intensity winning an important game over the Griffins, 5-2. Today's win keeps the playoff hopes alive for Concordia with only one conference game left in the season.

Senior Richard Heredia (Patchogue, NY) scored three goals in the match to lift the Clippers to the victory. Two of his goals came off penalty kicks and the other goal was scored during the 18 minute mark. Alessandro Persampieri (Tuckahoe, NY) scored an unassisted goal (his second of the season) in the first half to give Concordia a 3-0 lead at halftime.

To begin the second half, the Clippers worked on some great ball movement which led to a goal by David Mero (Randolph, NJ) by way of Heredia less than one minute into the half. Concordia knew that with such a lead, all they had to do was play at their pace and the game would be theirs.

Chestnut Hill, however, was able to get a goal in the 50th minute by Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) who took a rocket of a shot from the top of the penalty box. Another goal would follow for the Griffins at the 78 minute mark by Mushe Wamulume (Media, PA) during a corner kick opportunity.

That would be the last goal the Clippers' defense would allow as tempers on both sides flared throughout the entire match. In all, there were a total of nine yellow cards and three red cards. Both teams knew there was a lot on the line in this conference showdown as Concordia was able to come away with the win in the end.

Paul Wavell (London, England) recorded four saves as the Clippers' goalkeeper while Mike Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made six saves. The Griffins outshot Concordia by a margin of 19-14.

The Clippers (3-12-0, 3-7-0 CACC) will take a one game break from their conference schedule as they will travel to face Queens (NY) on Tuesday, October 25th. The 3:30pm game will take place in Flushing, NY.
