Easton, Mass. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) Clippers men's soccer team was back on the road this afternoon to face non-conference opponent, Stonehill College. The Skyhawks scored two goals in the first half to win 2-0 at Skyhawk Field.
Eight minutes into the game, Skyhawks forward Michael White crossed a pass from the side to forward Jordan Brown who found the back of the net. Brown placed the shot to the lower left corner of the goal, out of the reach of Clippers freshman goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez.
Stonehill would add another goal at the 25 minute mark off a breakaway goal from White. Acosta-Mendez attempted to come out of the box to cut off the angle of the shot but White still managed to get a shot on net for the final goal of the game.
Acosta-Mendez recorded 10 saves in 75 minutes of action before being replaced by fellow freshman Paul Wavell. The Skyhawks' Adam Colella recorded two saves for their first win of the season; Stonehill outshot the Clippers 20-6.
"We started the match brightly but conceded another cheap goal and found it tough to get back into the match" explained Clippers Head Coach Craig Wilkinson. "There were some positives in the game but we gave away possession too easily."
Concordia had to play a man down after a red card was issued at the 70th minute. "After going a man down, we started coming back into the match, kept the ball well and went two players up top but failed to find the breakthrough" Wilkinson stated.
"Oscar kept us in the match and even saved a penalty. He was solid for us today along with Daniel Espinoza. Getting Espinoza back was a breath of fresh air and I am looking to watching him play more and more for me because he was one of our standout players." Wilkinson reassured that his team would be ready for their next game. "We will look to bounce back right away and get back to work on Monday."
Concordia (0-2, 0-0 CACC) will have a few days off before they play their next contest. The Clippers will be on the road again to face C.W. Post on Wednesday, September 7th for a 4pm start.
