Men's Soccer Stops Lightning 2-1
Bronxville, NY - Senior forward Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored his third goal of the season to help the Clippers defeat the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College 2-1 this afternoon at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. The win improves the Clippers record to 2-1 overall. Goldey-Beacom falls to 0-1 on the year.
The Lightning got on the board in the 20th minute on a goal by Nicolas Hofman. The score would remain at 1-0 until just before halftime, as senior Daniel Cadena (Quito, Ecuador) crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Dimitrov, who fired the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the game at 1-1.
In the 54th minute, freshman Daniel Espinoza (New Rochelle, NY) scored the game-winning goal, his second of the season. The Clippers out shot the Lightning 10-3 for the game. Freshman goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) finished with a save while playing the full 90 minutes.
Concordia will return to Holtdorf Soccer Field on Sunday, September 7th to host the Pioneers of Columbia Union College. The game will begin at 12:00 PM.
