Late Goal Pushes Greyhounds Past Clippers 3-2
Worcester, MA - The Concordia College men's soccer team lost a 3-2 decision to the Greyhounds of Assumption College in a non-conference game last night at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, MA. The loss evens the Clippers record at 4-4 on the season. Assumption improves to 4-1-1 overall.
Concordia opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a header by freshman Daniel Espinoza (New Rochelle, NY), as the defense was attempting to clear the ball away from the goal. Espinoza is second on the team with 4 goals so far this season.
In the 32nd minute, Greyhound forward Stephen Blaisdell dribbled to the right side and fired a shot to the far post that found its way past Clipper goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) to tie the game at 1-1. A foul on Assumption gave the Clippers a direct kick and senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) blasted a ball offthe left post for the goal, his 11th of the season.
The Greyhounds would not be fazed as they tied the game at 2-2 just before the half on a goal by Martin Melendez-Cooper on a wild scramble in front of the net.
The score would remain at 2-2 all the way until the 83rd minute when Patrick Lindberg found the back of the net on a shot right in front of the goal for the game winner.
Assumption narrowly out shot the Clippers 7-6 and both teams combined for 33 fouls in the game. Each team took one corner kick during the game.
The Clippers will return to action on Wednesday, September 24th to take on Briarcliffe College in a non-conference match-up beginning at 4:00 PM.
