Clippers Split Pair of Games

Nyack, NY - The Concordia College men's soccer team split a pair of games this past weekend at the 2nd Annual Warrior Ivitational Tournament hosted by Nyack College.
Concordia 4 - Kutztown 2
The Clippers opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over the Golden Bears of Kutztown University. Senior forward Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored 2 goals, including the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute for the Clippers. Junior midfielder Samuel Ortega (Bucaramanga, Columbia) opened the scoring early in the 2nd minute. Dimitrov would put the Clippers ahead 2-0 before Kutztown's Greg Parker scored on a header in the 29th minute. Bill Frosoni tied the game at 2-2 on an unassisted goal just before the half.
The scored would remain 2-2 until the 71st minute, as Dimitrov would net his second goal of the day on a penalty kick. Freshman midfielder Daniel Espinoza (New Rochelle, NY) tallied his first goal of the year in the 83rd minute to make the final score 4-2. Freshman midfielder Richard Heredia (New Rochelle, NY) finished with 2 assists on the day.
Bloomsburg 3 - Concordia 1
The Clippers concluded the tournament with a 3-1 loss to the Huskies of Bloomsburg University. Tom Monagle opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before Ortega tied the game in the 68th minute. The Huskies would get the lead on a shot by Eric Simonds in the 81st minute and would add an insurance goal a couple of minutes later. The Clippers out shot Bloomsburg 10-7 for the game. Freshman goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) played a full 90 minutes and finished with 1 save.
The Clippers record now stands at 1-1 on the season.
Concordia will return to the field on Friday, September 5th, as they host the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College at Holtdorf Soccer Field. The action begins at 3:00 PM.
