Dimitrov Voted Daktronics All-American

Kansas City, MO - Senior forward Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) was voted to the 2008 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-America Second Team.

Dimitrov finished a brilliant 2008 season for the Clippers as the top regular season goal scorer in NCAA Division II men's soccer. Dimitrov scored 23 goals in just 17 games this season and averaged 2.76 points per game and 1.35 goals per game. The senior scored 4 goals in a 6-1 Clipper win on September 7th against Columbia Union College. The 4 goals ties for 3rd most goals scored in a single game this season in Division II men's soccer. Dimitrov has scored multiple goals in 7 games this season and has scored at least one goal in 13 of 17 games for Concordia this year.

Dimitrov is one of 18 players to be selected to the 2008 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-America Teams, which include first team, second team, third team and honorable mention and is the only student-athlete selected from the East Coast Conference.

Dimitrov was also named the 2008 East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding play and was a 2008 Daktronics All-East Region First Team Selection.

The senior forward participated in the 1st Annual Newark Ironbound Express College Soccer Showcase at the New York Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ back on Saturday, November 29th. Dimitrov scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in picking up MVP honors for the game.

Dimitrov scored the first goal in the opening half. He followed up that by setting up a score for Albright College forward Sean Genter late in the first half. Dimitrov found a hole in the Express defense on that second goal and dished a nice ball to Genter, who then hammered it into the back of the net. The Ironbound took that 2-0 lead into intermission.

Dimitrov hit his second goal of the game in the second half when he bent a free kick from just outside the penalty area into the upper 90, giving the Ironbound a 3-0 advantage. One minute later, Saint Peter's College midfielder Gamal Breedy raced through the Express defense and one-timed a ball to a wide-open Chad Bennett and the Caldwell College forward buried the ball off his left foot. The gap stretched to 5-0 late in the second half when Genter made good on a penalty kick. A Dimitrov to Breedy score in the final seconds of the closed out the scoring.

Sharing the shutout for the Ironbound were goalkeepers John Ciano (Manhattan College), Julian Gavira (Bloomfield College) and Matt Jones (Sacred Heart University).

The Newark Ironbound Express is a professional development team in the USL Premier Development League. The Express reached the PDL post-season in its inaugural season this past summer and will kick off their sophomore campaign this May.
