Clippers and Mavericks Tie 1-1

Bronxville, NY - Senior forward Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored his 17th goal of the season as the Clippers played the Mavericks of Mercy College to a hard-fought 1-1 draw yesterday afternoon at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. 

Dimitrov put the Clippers on the board first in the 28th minute when he received a feed from junior Fabian Contreras (New Rochelle, NY) and blasted a ball over Mercy goalkeeper Martin Walsh's outstretched arms. It was the second assist of the season for Contreras.

The Mavericks would answer in the 40th minute when sophomore Gianfranco Bastone took a shot from about 30 yards out along the left sideline that curved up into the upper right corner of the goal.

 

 

The Clippers had a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half and finished with 5 corner kicks to Mercy's 4 corner kicks.

In the second half, both defenses stepped up, as the Clippers were limited to 5 shots to the Mavericks 4 shots. In the overtime periods, Mercy held a 5-4 lead in shots, however, it was the Clippers who finished with 18 shots to Mercy's 14 shots.

Goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) finished with 4 saves on the day. Walsh totaled 5 saves in the game.

The Clippers record now stands at 4-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the East Coast Conference. The Mavericks move to 1-8-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.

Concordia will travel to Lincoln University, PA on Saturday, October 11th to face the Lions of Lincoln University in a non-conference game. The game will begin at 4:00 PM.
