Knights Come Away With 4-3 Win
Flushing, NY - Senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored all three goals for the Clippers in a 4-3 loss to the Knights of Queens College today in Flushing, NY. Dimitrov has totaled five goals in the last two games for the Clippers is ranks with the best goal scorers in the NCAA Division II.
The Knights got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Noorullah Mashriqi in the 23rd minute. The Clippers would tie the score two minutes later as Concordia was awarded a penalty kick and Dimitrov was able to fire the ball past Knight's goalkeeper Brian Brabazon.
Queens would again take the lead as Alberto Tortosa crossed the ball into the middle of the box and Ryuichiro Yasuda blasted a shot into the net.
In the 36th minute, the Clippers were awarded another penalty kick and the results were just the same, with Dimitrov netting his second goal of the game. The score would remain 2-2 for the remainder of the first half.
In the second half, Queens took control of the game with goals from Adam Maliniak in the 61st minute and Mashriqi in the 78th minute to go ahead 4-2. Just when it seemed like the game was about over, Dimitrov scored his third goal of the game in the 89th minute on a free ball kicked into the top right corner to cut the Clipper deficit to 4-3. However, that would be the final shot on goal Concordia would manage as the clock ran out with the Knights ahead 4-3.
The Clippers fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference. Queens improves to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Concordia will host the Mavericks of Mercy College on Tuesday, October 7th at Holtdorf Soccer Field in an ECC match-up. The action begins at 3:00 PM.
