STAC Defeats Concordia 4-2
Bronxville, NY - Despite two goals from senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria), the Concordia College men's soccer team fell to the visiting Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College 4-2 yesterday at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. Dimitrov has scored an ECC leading 23 goals this season and continues to be amongst the leaders in the NCAA in goal scoring.
The Spartans struck first in the second half, when Jon Michael Nabais connected on a pass from Brett Mielcarek in the 53rd minute to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Concordia would answer two minutes later when Dimitrov scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.
St. Thomas Aquinas would take control of the game by scoring three unanswered goals. The first two were by Remington Lee in the 61st and 64th minute and Konstantinos Sapount added the final goal for the Spartans in the 75th minute.
Dimitrov scored what would prove to be the final goal of the game in the 77th minute, once again on a penalty kick, to make the final score 4-2. freshman goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) finished with 5 saves for the Clippers.
The loss drops the Clippers to 5-8-3 overall and 0-4-3 in the East Coast Conference. St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 7-5-3 on the year and 1-4-1 in the east Coast Conference.
Concordia will wrap up the 2008 season on Wednesday, October 29th, as they travel to Brookville, NY to face the Pioneers of C.W. Post in an ECC battle. The action kicks-off at 4:00 PM.
