Men's Soccer Falls to Dowling 3-1
Brookhaven, NY - The Concordia College men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to the Golden Lions of Dowling College yesterday in an East Coast Conference match-up in Brookhaven, NY.
Senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored the lone Clipper goal in the 76th minute off of a feed from sophomore Omidiran Abdulafiz to cut the Clipper deficit to 2-1.
Moussa Keita opened the scoring for Dowling midway through the second half on a free kick from 20 yards out. Ten minutes later, Lamine Traore scored his first of two goals when he took a pass on the right side from Brandon Levine and fired a shot to the left corner from 10 yards in front of the goal to put the Golden Lions ahead 2-0.
Dowling would add the final goal of the game in the 89th minute on Traore's second goal to the bottom left corner.
Freshman Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) finished with a season high 6 saves for Concordia. The Clippers were out shot 15-4 for the game and Dowling held a slight 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
With the loss, the Clippers fall to 5-7-3 overall and 0-3-3 in the East Coast Conference. The Golden Lions improve to 12-2 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
Concordia will return to Holtdorf Soccer Field on Saturday, October 25th to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College. The action gets underway at 2:30 PM.
