Clippers Fall 3-2 in Overtime

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's soccer team lost a heart breaking 3-2 decision to the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in overtime today at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. The loss drops the Clippers record to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the East Coast Conference. Bridgeport improves to 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

 

 

Senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored both goals for the Clippers. The first goal came in the 40th minute, when Dimitrov blasted a ball that had rebounded off the post to cut the Clipper deficit to 2-1. His second goal came in the 52nd minute when junior Ulyses Salceda (Houston, TX) crossed the ball in from the left side and Dimitrov fired it past Bridgeport goalkeeper Milos Suljagic to tie the game at 2-2.

In the overtime period, junior Curt Sutherland netted the winning goal with just 1:11 left for the Purple Knights.  Sutherland also scored in the 17th minute of play. Gilbert Bayonne chipped in a goal and an assist for Bridgeport.

Freshman goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) finished with 5 saves on the afternoon.

The Clippers will return to action on Saturday, October 4th when they travel to Flushing, NY to face the Queens College Knights. The game will begin at 12:00 PM.
