Clippers and Lions Finish in 2-2 Tie
Rockville Centre, NY - The Concordia College men's soccer team got two goals from senior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) in the Clippers 2-2 tie with the Lions of Molloy College this past Saturday evening in Rockville Centre, NY.
Molloy jumped out to an early lead as Emmanuel Gamez found the back of the net in the 3rd minute off of a feed from Nick D'Alessandro. The two would hook up again in the 8th minute, however, it would be D'Alessandro scoring the goal and Gamez with the assist to put the Lions up 2-0.
Dimitrov would get the Clippers on the score board in the 12th minute as freshman Daniel Espinoza (New Rochelle, NY) crossed the ball into the box to Dimitrov, who headed it past Molloy goalkeeper Ettore Morelli to cut the deficit to 2-1.
A foul in the 85th minute gave the Clippers a free kick and Dimitrov connected for his 20th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2. That would prove to be all the scoring for the game as the Clippers out shot the Lions 6-2 in the overtime frames, but could not connect on any shots. The Lions out shot Concordia 19-16 overall for the game and held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Anthony McCarthy (Northport, NY) played the entire 110 minutes and finished with 2 saves. Morelli collected 8 saves for the Lions.
The Clippers record now stands at 5-6-3 overall and 0-2-3 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy moves to 7-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference action.
Concordia will travel to Oakdale, NY on Tuesday, October 21st to take on the Golden Lions of Dowling College. The game will begin at 4:00 PM.
