Clippers Capture First Win in Double Overtime 2-1
Wilmington, DE - Junior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game winning goal in double overtime to lift the Clippers past Goldey Beacom College 2-1 in double overtime in Wilmington, DE. Dimitrov leads the Clippers with 23 shots so far this season and has scored 2 goals.
The Lightning would get on the board first in the 5th minute on a blast from Rob McVey past goalkeeper Ivan Rodriguez (Galicia, Spain). It would remain a 1-0 battle until the 76th minute when Dimitrov connected off a feed from Dan Olarte (Bogota, Columbia) to tie the game at 1-1.
In the first overtime, The Clippers were able to fire off two shots on goal, however, were not able to connect on either shot. Ten minutes into the second overtime, sophomore Ulyses Salceda (Houston, TX) blasted a shot past the Lightning goalkeeper to give the Clippers the 2-1 win.
Rodriguez played all 115 in goal for Concordia, allowing 1 goal and registering a season high 9 saves. Rob Garofalo minded the net for Goldey-Beacom, with 12 saves and 2 goals allowed.
With the win, Concordia improves to 1-2 on the season. Goldey-Beacom falls to 0-5 on the season.
Concordia will return home to Holtdorf Soccer Field on Monday, September 10th to take on Roberts Wesleyan College. The action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
