Clippers Fall to Griffins 3-1
Philadelphia, PA - The Concordia College men's soccer team lost a close 3-1 decision to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College. It was the first win for Chestnut Hill in NCAA Division II, as the Griffins moved from Division III to Division II this season.
Both teams would battle to a 0-0 score in the first half. The Griffins would strike first in the 63rd minute on a goal by Andrew Thorne. Marko Tomljanovic scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal 11 minutes later to put the Griffins up 2-0. Junior Christian Castillo (Washington, DC) scored the lone goal for Concordia in the 83rd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Six minutes later, in the 89th minute,Thorne scored his second goal of the game to make the final score 3-1.
The Clippers outshot Chestnut Hill 29-14 for the game, with junior Stefan Dimitrov(Bulgaria registering 12 shots on goal and Castillo finished with 7 shots. Senior goalkeeper Clint Providence (Kingstown, St. Vincent) played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with 3 saves.
Concordia falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Griffins open at 1-0.
The Clippers will look for their initial victory of the 2007 season on Wednesday, September 5th, as they travel to Wilmington, DE to battle Goldey-Beacom College. The game will begin at 4:00 PM.
