Men's Soccer Adds Two Long Island Standouts
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's soccer team has added two Long Island, NY natives for the Fall 2008 recruiting class, as announced by the Athletics Department. Anthony McCarthy (Northport HS -Northport, NY) and Richard Heredia (Patchogue-Medford HS - Patchogue, NY) were both highly sought after by many Division I schools, but decided Concordia College was the place to continue their playing career. Heredia is a defensive center-mid and McCarthy is a goalkeeper. Both athletes should make immediate impacts for the Clippers.
The two incoming freshmen play for the highly rated Blau Weiss Gottschee, which is part of the US Soccer Developmental Academy.
"Rich is an explosive and strong central midfielder who will come in and fight for a starting spot right away. He is extremely quick on and off the ball and has a lot of fight in him" says Head Coach John Sprague. "Anthony is a strong and aggressive goalie that has great control of his box. He is an exceptional shot blocker and has tremendous success at making saves he probably shouldn't. I know both Rich and Anthony are an important step in the right direction for this program. We are all very excited they have decided to sign with Concordia."
