Men's Soccer Tops Spartans 2-1

Thiells, NY - Freshman Conor McEvoy (Luton, England) scored the game-winning goal 12 minutes into the second half to lift the Clippers over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College 2-1 yesterday in Thiells, NY. It was the second goal of the season for McEvoy. Junior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) assisted on the goal, his third assist of the season.

The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of play on a goal by Steven Ocampo. The score would remain 1-0 at the half, as both teams played a very evenly matched half of soccer. Both teams managed to get 7 shots, with both goalkeepers going into the half with 3 saves.

 

 

In the second half, the Clippers tied the game at the 49:34 mark on a goal by sophomore Ulyses Salceda (Houston, TX), his fifth goal of the season. Junior Christian Castillo (Washington, DC) tallied his team leading sixth assist on the goal.

Senior Clint Providence (Kingstown, St. Vincent) played brilliantly in goal for Concordia, allowing the one goal and finishing with 5 saves. William Diano finished with 6 saves and 2 goals allowed for St. Thomas Aquinas.

The win improves the Clippers record to 5-12-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the East Coast Conference. St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 6-12 overall and 2-7 in the East Coast Conference.

The Clippers will conclude the 2007 season on Saturday, October 27th, as they travel to Lincoln, PA to face the Lions of Lincoln University. The game will begin at 1:00 PM.
