Deacons Fall to Clippers 3-2

Bloomfield, NJ - Junior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored two goals to help the Clippers defeat the Deacons of Bloomfield College 3-2 yesterday in Bloomfield, NJ. Dimitrov leads the Clippers with 4 goals on the season.

The Clippers opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play, with Dimitrov scoring on a deflection in front of the net on a free kick. Junior Christian Castillo (Washington, DC) received the assist.  The Clippers would add to their lead in the 35th minute when the Deacon goalkeeper, Julian Gaviria, punted the ball outside the box, awarding the Clippers a free kick. Dimitrov made the Deacons pay by netting his second goal of the game off the free kick. Bloomfield would answer a few minutes later on a goal by Jose Ramos, who chipped the ball over Concordia goalkeeper Ivan Rodriguez (Galicia, Spain) from just outside the left side of the box to cut the deficit to 2-1.

 

In the second half, freshman Conor McEvoy (Luton, England) scored his first goal of the season in the 58th minute to increase the lead to 3-1. Castillo added his second assist for the game and leads Concordia with 4 assists on the season. Bloomfield would not go away quietly on their home field. In the 80th minute, Adrian Lagos scored an unassisted goal to again cut the deficit to a single goal. The Clippers would hold off a Bloomfield rally, as the Deacons managed to fire off a few shots late in the game.

Rodriguez played the entire 90 minutes in goal for Concordia, allowing 2 goals and registering 6 saves. For Bloomfield, Gaviria collected 1 save for the game and allowed 3 goals.

The win improves the Clippers record to 3-6 overall. Bloomfield falls to 1-5-2 overall.

Concordia will return to Holtdorf Soccer Field on Wednesday, September 26th, as they get back into ECC action against the Pioneers of C.W. Post. The game will begin at 3:00 PM.
