Late Goals Push Golden Lions Over Clippers 3-1
Bronxville, NY - On the strength of three late goals, the Dowling College Golden Lions defeated the Clippers 3-1 yesterday at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. Junior Stefan Dimitrov (Bulgaria) scored his team leading 7th goal of the season in the 34th minute of play to give Concordia a 1-0 lead. Senior Terrance Joseph (Port of Spain, Trinidad) tallied his 1st assist of the season. The Clippers would hang on for a 1-0 lead at halftime. Dowling out shot Concordia 14-3 in the first half.
In the second half, the Golden Lions would tie the game at the 77:00 mark on a goal by Junior Laurencin. Dowling would keep the pressure on the Clippers and would take the lead on a goal by Samba Traore in the 88th minute of play. Dowling would add an insurance goal just over a minute later by Jamie Underwood to make the final score 3-1.
Senior Clint Providence (Kingstown, St. Vincent) finished the game with a seasons best 16 saves. Nemanja Veljovic minded the net for Dowling, allowing 1 goal and finishing with 1 save.
Concordia falls to 4-12-1 overall with the loss and 1-6-1 in the East Coast Conference. Dowling College improves to 12-2-3 overall and 5-0-3 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to Sparkill, NY on Wednesday, October
24th to face off against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas
College. The game will begin at 3:00 PM.
