Clippers finish 4th at Spring Fling

The Concordia College golf team played in the one-day, 18-hole Concordia College Spring Fling on April 4 at Philip J. Rotella GC in Thiells, NY. The Clippers were led by freshmen Kyle Grandilli (Ontario, CAN), who shot a round of 75 to finish in a tie for 7th place in the 60-player field. Sophomore Jeff Schaller (Kingston, NY) added a 76 to tie for 10th place. Freshman Sam Deitte (St. Louis, MO) carded a five-over par round of 77, landing him in a tie for 12th place.

As a team, Skidmore College shot 299 to win the event. Rounding out the Top Five were St. Thomas Aquinas College (301), Nyack College (309), Concordia College (310) and Dowling College (313).

Completing the Top Ten were Manhattan College (324), Felician College (337), Purchase College (337), Sage College (344) and Sacred Heart University B (370).

The individual title was won with a one-under par round of 71 by Ryan Lloyd (Skidmore). Mike Gunderson (St. Thomas Aquinas) and John McCarthy (Skidmore) both shot 73. Zhao Yang (Nyack) and Chris Fitzpatrick (St. Thomas Aquinas) each carded a 74 to complete the Top Five.

Concordia freshman Lorenz Kolmeder (Bavaria, GER) turned in a round of 82, good for a tie for 29th place. Sophomore Will Deitte (St. Louis, MO) shot 88 to finish in a tie for 42nd place. 

The Clippers improved their record to 25-18 in the East region head-to-head standings and to 14-4 in the CACC head-to-head standings. With their second win of the season over a Division I school, Concordia is now 2-3 against Division I competition this year.

"We played hard," commented coach Scott Allen. "We're playing very well. The team continues to raise the bar in terms of their expectations and goals. They know what's at stake headed down the stretch and I believe the full sum of their experiences this year will allow them to continue to achieve to their full potential. As always, I am very proud of my team."
