Joan (Joe-an) Sanchez, the seventh coach in Concordia College-NY history, enters his third season with the Clippers and second has Head Coach bringing over 11 years experience at the NCAA and NJCAA levels to the program.

Sanchez who served one year with the Clippers as an assistant coach was tapped to lead the Clippers on July 1, 2009. In his first year guiding the Clippers they enjoyed significant turnaround in conference victories while seen his team break the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference single game rebounding record while also being ranked among the top in the CACC in that category.

He coached players William Eason and Argelix Gil who where both tap for player and rookie of the week respectively on several occasion during his first campaign. While mentoring William Eason to earn a spot on the All-Conference CACC second team, coaching Eason to break the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference single-game and season records in rebounds.

In the classroom, Sanchez team enjoyed the highest GPA the program has seen in over a decade.

In the community, Sanchez has encouraged and led his team participation in community outreach programs through the involvement with the White Plains YMCA and White Plains Youth Organization League.

Previously to arriving at Concordia College, Sanchez served as the Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lehman College. Sanchez who served two stings in a 7-year period under Head Coach Steven Schulman helped guide the Lighting increase it’s victories total in 2007-08, while recruiting two All-Conference players. His last recruiting class at the Bronx, NY school captured the ECAC Metro Championship while enjoying a 20-plus-win season.

Prior to joining Coach Schulman bench, he was an assistant coach at John Jay College between 2004-07 campaigns. At John Jay Sanchez recruited several All-Conference players and helped guide the Bloodhounds reach the Conference Semi-finals. Sanchez 2004 recruiting class captures the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championship being John Jay College first basketball conference Championship and NCAA Berth.

Additionally to stops at Lehman and John Jay College he served as Special Assistant Athletic Director at Hostos Community College from 2002-2004 under the leadership of Athletic Director Robert Holford and Vice President Dr. Ben Corpus. There, Sanchez played a major role in the establishment in Hostos Athletic Department, the creation of 5 Varsity athletic teams and successful entry to the National Junior College Athletic Association and Region XV as full time members. Besides his administrative duties, he served as Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach under NJCAA National Coach of the Year Robert Holford. He also served as the college first baseball coach. He baptized the athletic teams with its nickname the “Caimans”. During his tenure with the Caimans, he helped recruit and built the 2005 NJCAA Division III National Champions.

Away from the Hardwood, Sanchez served as lead anchored on the American Voice Radio Network to a National Syndicated Radio News Cast, the “Headline News Hour” covering Foreign Affairs and USA-Latin American Relations. Sanchez also served as Chief Editor to the “Chamo Times” a newspaper outlet focusing on the Venezuelan and Latin-American Communities living in the United States.

Sanchez, a publish author, has being publish by the Associated Press, ABN and several major Latin America news agencies. Moreover, as a regular writer for Latin-Basket.

A graduate of Moody Bible Seminary, Sanchez is member of the United Chaplain of the State of New York and seats on the board of the non-profit Youth Empowerment Organization. Sanchez also holds membership in the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Sanchez is single and resides in Queens, NY while currently pursuing my Masters Degree in Social Science from Empire State College.  He is a Native of Caracas, Venezuela.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Joan Sanchez announces the addition of Brian Sondey to the coaching staff.

Coach Brian Sondey comes via The College of Westchester where he served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach..

"After a long search I’m happy to announce that we found a young and enthusiastic coach that will help us as we continue to guide this program to another level," Coach Sanchez stated. Sanchez continued, "Coach Sondey brings a wealth of basketball experience both as a player and coach. His experience, excitement and passion will help develop our young team".

A local resident of Westchester County, Brian attended Pleasantville High School where he was a 3 year letter winner while helping guide them to a Section 1 Championship. He went on to New England College where he was a 3 year letter winner.

Coach Sondey's duties include the program's academic oversight, recruiting and on the court player development among his other duties.


Mitch Martinez

Coach Mitch Martinez returns to the Clippers this time joining Coach Joan Sanchez' bench and the Men's Basketball program.

Prior to joining Coach Sanchez' staff, Coach Martinez served as assistant coach with the women's program at Concordia College NY.  He also held the same position at Mercy College and Baruch College.  While at Baruch he was crucial in helping transform the once dormit program into a championship contender has he led the Bearcats to two back to back semi-final appearances and recruited several All-CUNY conference student-athletes.

Mitch Martinez' extensive coaching resume spans over 30 years, including a sting as the Head Boy's Varsity Basketball Coach at St. Helena High School in the Bronx, while also coaching at numerous community sports organizations.
