BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers men's basketball program edged the visiting Holy Family University Tigers on Saturday afternoon, 68-63, in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup in the Meyer Athletic Center.
Prior to the start of the game seniors Elijah Brown (Maplewood, N.J.), Justyn Gardner (Queens, N.Y.), and Andrew Peacock (Washington, D.C.) were all honored for their hard work and dedication to the men's basketball program over their careers with the Clippers.
The first half saw both teams scoring at a high pace early on as Holy Family led 9-8 at the 17:41 mark. Concordia would trail by five points, 22-17, with 10:20 remaining in the period as the Clippers would work to knot the score at 28-28 at the 5:16 mark. Concordia ended the half on an 11-3 run as the Clippers led 39-31 at the break.
Concordia continued their offensive momentum early in the second half as the Clippers used a 9-2 run to hold a 48-33 advantage with 17:28 remaining on the clock. The Tigers would slowly begin to cut into the deficit and would tie the score with 3:37 remaining in regulation, 62-62. Concordia would knock down free throws and a field goal while allowing Holy Family to only score one point for the remainder of the game as the Clippers held on for the 68-63 win.
Sophomore Brandon Fields (Washington, D.C.) and Gardner both scored 12 points for Concordia as Fields had five rebounds while Gardner finished with four rebounds. Brown chipped in with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds while adding three assists and a steal.
The Clippers (10-16, 4-13 CACC) will next visit Dominican (N.Y.) on Wednesday evening for a CACC North Division game in Orangeburg, N.Y.
