BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College men's basketball team welcomed the University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game in the Meyer Athletic Center. The Clippers were unable to come away with the home victory as the Devils took an 81-73 win.
The first half began with Concordia taking a 5-0 lead as the Clippers held a 10-4 advantage at the 16:44 mark. USciences battled their way back to take a 12-11 advantage a couple minutes later as the two sides would alternate leads on the scoreboard for much of the half. The visitors managed to lead by four at the 7:37 mark until six unanswered points for Concordia put them back in front, 28-26. The Clippers trailed by two going into the final possession of the half as sophomore Brandon Fields (Washington, D.C.) knocked down a three-point basket to give Concordia the 38-37 halftime lead.
In the second half neither side was able to lead by more than three points in the early going until an 8-1 run for the Devils gave them a 54-48 advantage at the 11:52 mark. The Clippers would close the gap to just a point with 7:03 remaining on the clock, but USciences would begin to slowly pull away. Concordia was unable to mount a late comeback down the stretch as the Devils took the 81-73 victory.
Junior Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) led Concordia with 18 points and seven rebounds while Field added 14 points. Senior Justyn Gardner (Queens, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 13 points and add five rebounds while junior Jayson Cethoute (Queens, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points.
The Clippers (8-15, 2-12 CACC) will have a week off until their next game on Saturday, Feb. 10th at Goldey-Beacom College.
