Gil Nets 1,000th Point for Concordia in 91-74 Win over Nyack
Nyack, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team and the Nyack Warriors took to the court at the Bowman Center this evening for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. Junior Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, NY) managed to net his 1,000th career point with 2:01 remaining in the first half on the way to a 91-74 victory for the Clippers.
Concordia began the game shooting their jump shots well as they took an early 16-5 lead. The three-point shooting would also be a factor for the Clippers as they extended their lead to 26-12 following a three-point basket by Kyle Kube (West Babylon, NY) at the 9:52 mark.
Following a dunk for the home team, the Warriors went on a 7-2 run as they looked to get back into the game. Nyack cut their deficit to 14 points with 2:26 remaining but Concordia closed out the half on a 6-2 run to take a 50-32 lead into the locker room.
The Clippers began the second half on a hot streak but the Warriors countered with a 9-0 run over a span of two and a half minutes to cut the deficit to 57-43. Concordia would break their scoreless streak and regain a 20 point lead with 12:31 to go.
The Clippers closed out the game with smart play as they only committed three turnovers in the final 12 minutes. Concordia stuck with their offensive plays and did not change the pace of the game. The Clippers were able to end the game with their bench players as the team won for the seventh time this season.
Norman Pope (Washington, D.C.) led Concordia with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while adding five assists, two rebounds and a steal. Gil ended the game with 14 points and a game high 12 rebounds while Kube came off the bench to score 14 points as well. As a team, the Clippers shot 52.3% (34-of-65) from the field as well as shooting 18-of-20 (90.0%) from the foul line.
Concordia (7-8, 4-3 CACC) will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to face the Bloomfield Deacons in a CACC showdown. Tip-off at the Bloomfield Gymnasium is set for 8pm following the women's game in Bloomfield, NJ.
