Concordia (N.Y.) Men's Basketball Hosts 2nd Annual Summer Camp
Bronxville, N.Y. - For the second consecutive year, the Concordia Clippers opened the doors of the Meyer Athletic Center to the local community for a week long basketball camp. The camp, which ran from August 8th to August 13th, was attended by almost 40 children ages 5 to 13 from many of the local communities such as New Rochelle, Tuckahoe, Bronxville, and Eastchester.
Head Coach Brian Sondey started the camp last season and it serves as the primary fundraising opportunity for the men's basketball program at Concordia. The camp's main purpose is to teach skill development to all ages while making basketball not only fun but competitive. "We liked to mix everyday up with skill building and competition like league games," Coach Sondey said. "The goal was for every camper to walk away having learned some great basketball stuff throughout the week. Our 'Coaches' were the key as they made for a great camp."
The "Coaches" that Sondey referred to were current and future Concordia men's basketball athletes. Junior Brandon Whitaker (Harlem, N.Y.), Sophomores Marquis Campbell (Albany, N.Y.) and Norman Pope (Washington, D.C.), as well as incoming Freshmen Jason Alleyne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Dominique Spann (West Babylon, N.Y.) worked the camp as volunteer coaches to help take the players through individual and team skill development.
The Concordia men's basketball program will be holding their 2nd Annual Friday Night Clinics this fall. The clinics will be run at the Meyer Athletic Center for 4 consecutive Friday evenings starting September 23rd at 6:30 PM.
