Clippers Fall to Knights in Battle for Playoff Spot
Flushing, NY - The Concordia College men's basketball team lost an East Coast Conference match-up to the Queens College Knights 74-61 last night at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing, NY. The Clippers and Knights entered last night's contest tied for the 8th and final spot in the upcoming East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. The Knights hold a 1-game lead over Concordia at 5-9 in conference play and 7-16 overall on the season. The Clippers sink to 4-10 in the East Coast Conference and 6-19 overall. Both teams have 4 ECC games remaining.
Concordia was led by senior Alphonso DuHart (Hillside, NJ), who scored a game high 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. DuHart shot 5 for 7 (71.4%) from the floor, including 3 for 4 (75%) from 3-point range. Junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) was also efficient from the floor, shooting 60% (6 for 10) and finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds and a game high 5 assists. Sophomores William Eason (Springfield, MA) and Samuel Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico) each finished with 11 points. Freshman Daniel Olsen (Stafford, CT) chipped in 8 points and a team high 7 rebounds.
Queens College was led by Edil Lacayo, who had 14 points and Lamont Lans, who finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Khaleef Allicott added 12 points and Terrell Simmons shot 9 for 10 (90%) from the foul line to score 9 points and pull down 6 rebounds. Mike Liander and Nana Kwadwo Boateng collected 8 points apiece for the Knights.
The Clippers will step out of East Coast Conference play on Monday, February 16th, as they host the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College at the Meyer Athletic Center. Action tips-off at 7:00 PM.
