Men's Basketball Falls in OT 64-62
Bronxville, NY - Despite a 20 point, 14 rebound effort from sophomore William Eason (Springfield, MA), the Concordia College men's basketball team fell to the Lions of Molloy College 64-62 in overtime yesterday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The 20 points and 14 rebounds are both season highs for Eason, as he collects his second double-double of the year.
Freshman Dan Olsen (Stafford, CT) also had season highs in points and rebounds, finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Clippers. Senior Dan Cunningham (Ulster Park, NY) grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 7 points. Junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) had a game high 7 assists to go along with 6 points.
With the Clippers down 56-54, junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) connected on two free throws to tie the game with 33 seconds remaining in regulation. The Lions would have a shot to end the game, however, Dariel Concha's jumper with 4 seconds left was off mark and the game went into overtime.
The Clippers led 60-57 in the extra frame, but the Lions would hit four straight free throws to take a 61-60 lead with 1:54 left to play. A lay-up by Gaskins put the Clippers back up by a point with just over a minute remaining. A costly turnover by the Clippers led to a breakaway dunk by Girard Fitts and put the Lions ahead 63-62. Molloy added a free throw with 8 seconds to increase the lead to 2 points, but missed the second free throw. Concordia would have one last shot as Gaskin drove the lane for a game winning lay-up, however Concha would come through with a huge block to preserve the win for the Lions.
Fitts finished with a team high 17 points for Molloy. Carl Palmer added 13 points and Brian Hutchinson finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Concha chipped in 5 points and 8 rebounds for the Lions.
The Clippers fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy improves to 3-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The Clippers will host the Golden Lions of Dowling College on Wednesday, December 10th at the Meyer Athletic Center. The action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
