Clippers Bounce Back to Defeat Wolves 60-56
Winter Park, FL - The Concordia College men's basketball team rebounded from their opening night loss in the Winter Park Rotary Tangerine Tournament to defeat the Wolves of the University of West Georgia 60-56 last night in Winter Park, FL.
Sophomore Samuel Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico) notched a game high 20 points for the Clippers and pulled down 7 rebounds. Batista shot 8 for 12 (66.6%) from the floor, including 4 for 6 from 3-point range. The sophomore guard was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while sophomore William Eason (Springfield, MA) and senior Dan Cunningham (Ulster Park, NY) scored 8 points apiece. Eason also collected 9 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.
For the Wolves, Jeremy Smith shot 6 for 9 (66.6%) from the floor to score 14 points. Chris Miller-Williams and Doug Daniels each finished with 10 points. Chris Colvin added 9 points and Gavin Field chipped in 8 points and team high 8 rebounds.
Batista is joined on the Winter Park Rotary Tangerine All-Tournament Team by Kevin Hogan of Rollins College, Ben De La Cruz and D.J. Ferguson of Flagler College and Miller-Williams of the University of West Georgia. Nick Wolf of Rollins College was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
With the win, the Clippers improve to 3-10 on the year, while the University of West Georgia falls to 3-9 overall.
The Clippers will return to the court in 2009 on Saturday, January 10th as they travel to Brookville, NY to face the Pioneers of C.W. Post in East Coast Conference action. The Pioneers are currently ranked 6th in the nation, according to the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll released on December 23rd. Tip-off is set for 3:30 PM.
