Batista Leads Concordia Over UPR-Mayaguez 75-72
Carolina, Puerto Rico - Sophomore Samuel Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico) made a triumphant return home by scoring a game high 24 points to lead the Clippers past the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 75-72 last night at the Puerto Rico Lexmark Holiday Tournament in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Batista shot an impressive 9 for 12 (75%) from the floor, including 3 for 4 (75%) from 3-point range and also pulled down 6 rebounds.
Senior Alphonso DuHart (Hillside, NJ) shot 4 for 5 (80%) from the floor and a perfect 3 for 3 from long range in scoring 11 points for the Clippers and junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) added 10 points and 4 rebounds. Freshman Daniel Olsen (Stafford, CT) finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds, while junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Sophomore William Eason (Springfield, MA) had a game high 7 rebounds to go along with 5 points, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
For UPR-Mayaguez, Steven Ramirez scored 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Ferdinand Santiago finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds and teammate Wilton Perez also scored 11 points and had 3 steals. Jesus Mora chipped in 9 points for UPR-Mayaguez.
The Clippers improve to 2-7 on the season.
Concordia will continue play in the Puerto Rico Lexmark Holiday Tournament on Friday, December 19th at 7:00 PM.
