Princeton Defeats Concordia 64-44

Princeton, NJ - The Concordia College men's basketball team was defeated by the Tigers of Princeton University 64-44 yesterday at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, NJ. The Clippers lose their second straight game and fall to 5-14 on the season. The Division I Tigers improve to 5-8 overall.

Concordia was led by sophomore Samuel Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico), who finished with a game high 15 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) tallied 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in a full 40 minutes of action.

The Clippers scored the first 5 points of the game before Princeton answered with the next 10 points of the game. A lay-up by senior Dan Cunningham (Ulster Park, NY) made it a 10-7 game mid-way through the opening half. Cunningham finished with 4 points and 7 rebounds

The Tigers started to open the game with some 3-point shooting. A 13-5 scoring run for Princeton that included three 3-pointers pushed the lead to 23-12 with just over 5 minutes left. A 3-point basket by Batista and 2 free throws by senior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) cut the Clipper deficit to 6 points. However, Princeton closed the half by outscoring the Clippers 9-2 to take a 32-19 lead into the locker room.

The Clippers shot 7 for 29 (24.1%) in the first half, compared to the Tigers 12 for 27 (44.4%). Princeton shot better from long range, going 6 for 15 (40%) from 3-point range compared to the Clippers 3 for 8 (37.5%). Concordia out rebounded the Tigers 23-15 in the opening half.

Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second half. A jumper by Gaskins cut the Princeton lead to 37-28 with 15:45 left in the game. However, the Tigers would again respond with another scoring run, a 13-2 scoring run that put the Tigers up 50-30 with just over 8 minutes remaining. The closest Concordia would get to the Tigers the rest of the way was 15 points with 4 minutes left in the game.

Concordia finished the game shooting 30% (18 for 60) from the floor, including 6 for 15 (40%) from 3-point range.

For Princeton, Douglas Davis scored 11 points and Marcus Schroeder finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Pawel Buczak, Nick Lake, Patrick Saunders and Zach Finley added 7 points apiece for the Tigers.

The Clippers will get back into East Coast Conference action on Wednesday, January 28th at the Meyer Athletic Center against the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. The game will commence at 7:00 PM.
