Eason Posts Double-Double in 73-67 Win
Dobbs Ferry, NY - Sophomore William Eason (Springfield, MA) scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Clippers to a 73-67 win over the Mercy College Mavericks last night in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The Clippers pick-up their second straight win and improve to 5-12 overall and 3-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Mavericks remain winless at 0-16 on the year and 0-7 in conference play.
Sophomore Samuel Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico) led all scorers with 18 points and junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds and a game high 5 assists. Freshman Daniel Olsen (Stafford, CT) also recorded a double-double with 10 points on a perfect 4 for 4 shooting night and 11 rebounds.
For Mercy, Michael Marin scored 16 points and collected 7 rebounds. Ed Wilson and David Brown notched 16 points apiece and Justin McMullen added 15 points and 7 rebounds.
The Clippers out shot the Mavericks 46.4% (26 for 56) to 35.8% (24 for 67) from the floor. Concordia posted a 56% (14 for 25) shooting effort in the second half to turn a 28-27 halftime lead to a 43-32 lead with just over 14 minutes remaining.
The Mavericks would cut into the Clipper lead. A lay-up by McMullen at the 07:55 mark cut the Maverick deficit to 3 points. The Clippers would push the lead back to 9 points on a 3-pointer and a jumper by Batista.
With 02:10 remaining, a lay-up by Brown would cut the Clipper lead to 4 points. But the Clippers would respond with 5 straight points, a conventional 3-point play by Gaskins and 2 foul shots to push Concordia ahead 68-59 with 42 seconds left in the game.
Concordia will return to action Saturday, January 24th in Garden City, NY against the Panthers of Adelphi University in an ECC match-up. The game gets underway at 3:00 PM.
