Men's Basketball Falls to Pioneers 78-69
Brookville, NY - Senior Alphonso DuHart (Hillside, NJ) netted a season high 20 points, however, the Pioneers of C.W. Post came away with a 78-69 ECC victory at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, NY. DuHart shot 7 for 12 (58.3%) from the floor and also had 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
Sophomore William Eason (Springfield, MA) posted a double-double with 13 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Junior Kenny Gaskins (Bronx, NY) added 10 points and 6 assists while junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds.
The first half saw both teams battle back and forth, with neither team leading by more than 6 points. There were 8 ties during the first 20 minutes of play and each team held the lead on three separate occasions. Senior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) nailed a jumper with 2 seconds to give the Clippers a 32-30 lead at the half.
Concordia maintained their lead early in the second half. A 3-pointer by Nicholas Carter sparked a 7 point scoring run that gave the Pioneers a 53-48 lead with 09:25 left to play. Eason made a conventional 3-point play with a basket and a free throw to cut the Clipper deficit to 1 point at 57-56. C.W. Post would respond by outscoring the Clippers 13-5 to take a 70-61 lead with just over a minute left to play.
For the Pioneers, Carter led all scorers with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Lyndon Daniel finished with 15 points on 6 for 7 (85.7%) shooting from the floor. Kenny Burkes added 13 points and 7 assists, while Jonathan Schmidt chipped in 12 points and a game high 9 assists.
The loss drops the Clippers to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in East Coast Conference action. The Pioneers remain perfect at 10-0 on the year and 4-0 in conference play.
Concordia will return to the court on Wednesday, January 14th, as they host the Knights of Queens College in an ECC match-up. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
