Young Drops 26 Points in Win Over Mavericks

Bronxville, NY - Junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) scored a season high 26 points and tied a season high with 6 rebounds in the Clippers 76-62 win over the Mercy College Mavericks last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Young shot an impressive 71% (10-14) from the floor. Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) added 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Torrence McGill (Manhattan, NY) finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) and freshman William Eason (Springfield, MA) each chipped in 6 points.

 

 

For the Mavericks, Jimmy Gunville had a team high 19 points on 5-12 (42%) shooting from 3-point range. Paul Flowers finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Keiron Guy added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Mercy College jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and the Clippers bounced back to take an 8-7 lead with 14:25 left in the first half. Both teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the first half, as neither team would lead by more than 5 points. Gunville put the Mavericks up 26-21 with just under a minute left in the half. Concordia answered right back, as Young hit a jumper and a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 26-26 as the teams went into halftime.

The second half started out very close, as there were 5 ties and 6 lead changes in the first 10 minutes of play. Gunville hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 46-46. The Clippers took control of the game with an 18-6 scoring run to take a 64-52 lead with 04:53 remaining.

The Clippers improve to 9-12 overall and 8-6 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy College falls to 6-15 overall and 5-9 in the East Coast Conference.

The Clippers will look for their 3rd straight win on Saturday, February 9th, as they host the Dowling College Golden Lions. The Clippers squeaked by the Golden Lions 65-63 back on December 14, 2007 in Oakdale, NY. The action gets underway at 3:00 PM.
