Fields Nets 24 Points in Win Over Adelphi
Bronxville, NY - Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) scored a game high 24 points in leading the Clippers to a 63-57 victory over the Panthers of Adelphi University today at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Fields shot 9-12 (75%) from the free throw line and also collected 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Clippers. Senior Lamont Wilson (Manhattan, NY) finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds and sophomore Torrance McGill (Manhattan, NY) chipped in 7 points and 5 rebounds.
For the Panthers, Sky Khaleel scored 13 points and Arjan Perovic and Pat Luptowski each chipped in 10 points.
In the first half, the Clippers defense stymied the Panthers into shooting 25% (6-24) from the floor, including 3-13 (23%) from 3-point range. Concordia led 15-8 on a jumper by Gaskins III with just over six minutes remaining. Khaleel answered for the Panthers, scoring 5 straight points to cut the Panther deficit to 15-13 with 04:51 left in the opening period. Four straight points by junior Dan Cunningham (Kingston, NY) and a basket by Fields put the Clippers back up by 8 points and would go into the half with a 29-20 advantage.
The second half saw the Clippers obtain their largest lead of the game, a 37-23 advantage with 16:16 to play on a jumper by freshman William Eason (Springfield, MA). Adelphi would then go on a 23-12 scoring-run to cut the Clipper lead to 49-46 with just over seven minutes left in the game. Not to be outdone, Concordia would respond with a 9-1 scoring run to give them a 58-47 lead with 03:32 remaining. The Panthers would not go a way quietly as they would once again shrink the deficit to three points at 60-57 with 13 seconds left in the game. However, Fields and McGill would score the game's final 3 points from the foul line to secure the win for Concordia.
The win improves the Clippers record to 8-12 overall and 7-6 in the East Coast Conference. Adelphi falls to 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers, who have won four out of their last five games,
will look to add to their win total on Wednesday, February 6th, as
they host the Mercy College Mavericks at the Meyer Athletic Center.
The Clippers beat the Mavericks 72-50 in Dobbs Ferry, NY on
December 8, 2007. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
