Fields Scores 1,000th Career Point in Win Over Knights

Bronxville, NY - Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) led the Clippers with a game high 20 points and scored his 1,000 career point in the process as the Clippers soundly defeated the Queens College Knights 65-49 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Fields also finished with 9 points, 5 steals and 2 assists. Junior Dan Cunningham (Kingston, NY) turned in a solid performance, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Sophomore Torrance McGill (Manhattan, NY) shot 5-7 (71%) from the floor in scoring 10 points. McGill also grabbed 7 rebounds and had 3 assists. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) finished with 6 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, while teammate Troy Young (Largo, MD) chipped in 5 points. Senior Lamont Wilson (Manhattan, NY) had 3 points and 6 rebounds for the Clippers.

For Queens College, Khaleef Allicott scored a team high 17 points and Terrell Simmons added 12 points. Greg Tull chipped in 6 points and 4 rebounds.

The Clippers took a 33-30 lead into the locker room at the half, thanks to a buzzard-beating 3-pointer by junior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY), his only points in 10 minutes of action. The Knights tied the score at 33-33 on a traditional 3-point play by Lamont Lans. The Clippers opened the game up with a 14-0 scoring run to take a 47-33 lead with 13:01 remaining. A foul shot by Allicott stopped the scoring run by the Clippers. After both teams traded baskets, Cunningham nailed a baseline 3-pointer to give the Clippers a 52-36 lead with 10:31 left in the game. A minute later, Fields connected on a short jumper in the paint to reach the 1,000 point mark for his career at Concordia College. The Clippers would increase the lead to 21 points with just over 8 minutes remaining and would cruise to the victory.

The win improves the Clippers to 11-16 overall and 10-10 in the East Coast Conference. The Knights fall to 4-22 overall and 2-17 in the East Coast Conference.

The Clippers will await the upcoming East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, March 5th with quarter-final round action. The top 4 seeds in the tournament will host quarter-final round action.
