14th Ranked Pioneers Edge Clippers 79-75
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's basketball team was beaten by the 14th ranked Pioneers of C.W. Post 79-75 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The Pioneers were the third nationally ranked team the Clippers have faced this season. Concordia faced both Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University, who were ranked 7th and 17th respectively at the time, over the Christmas Holiday.
Freshman William Eason (Springfield, MA) led the Clippers with 15 points on 6-10 (60%) shooting from the floor. Eason also had 5 rebounds and a season high 5 blocks. Eason is the leading shot blocker in the East Coast Conference with 1.57 blocks per game. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) had a solid all-around performance with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Sophomore Torrance McGill (Manhattan, NY) had 13 points and 9 rebounds, 6 of which were on the offensive end. Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, while junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) scored 8 points for the Clippers.
For C.W. Post, Jonathan Schmidt led 5 players in double-digits with 17 points and a game high 7 assists. Gilbert Montalvo scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while teammate Kevin Spann had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Kellen Scantlebury added 12 points and Lyndon Daniel chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds.
In the second half, Montalvo nailed a 3-pointer with 16:27 remaining to give the Pioneers a 49-37 lead. The lead would remain in double-digits and would balloon up to 18 points on a foul shot by Daniel with 12:44 left in the game. The Clippers would chip away at the Pioneer lead and would cut it to 10 points at 72-62 on a foul shot by Nikko Callender (Baldwin, NY) with 03:17 remaining. Another 3-pointer by Montalvo pushed the lead back to 13 points at 75-62. That would be the last basket the Pioneers would score in the last 3 minutes, but would connect on free throws down the stretch to maintain the win.
The Clippers fall to 9-14 overall and 8-8 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers improve to 21-2 overall and a perfect 16-0 in the East Coast Conference.
Concordia will host the NYIT Bears on Saturday, February 16th at

Westbury, NY earlier this season. The action will begin at 3:00 PM.
