Clippers Drop Two in Oak Harbor Classic

Seattle, WA - The Concordia College men's basketball team fell to two Top 25 teams in the Oak Harbor Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, WA. Concordia fell 85-70 to the host Falcons of Seattle Pacific University, who are ranked 17th in the nation in the latest NABC National Rankings. The following night, the Clippers were defeated by the 7th ranked Redhawks of Seattle University 93-70. The two losses drops the Clippers record to 4-7 overall.

On opening night against the Falcons, senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) and junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) each scored team high 18 points for the Clippers. Fields also finished with 2 assists and 2 steals. Young had his best performance of the season thus far, shooting 6-9 (67%) from the field and 5-6 (83%) from the free throw line. Young also pulled down 4 rebounds and had 2 assists. Junior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) added 10 points and freshmen William Eason (Springfield, NY) and Sean Walker (Bridgeport, CT) chipped in 7 points apiece. Eason led the Clippers with 10 rebounds.

 

 

Seattle Pacific had 4 players finish in double figures, led by Marques Echols, who had a game high 23 points on 9-15 (60%) shooting, including 5-9 (56%) from 3-point range. Rob Diederichs finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Jojay Jackson scored 15 points and pulled down a team high 9 rebounds and Casey Reed added 12 points and 7 assists. Seattle Pacific improves to 7-1 with the win over the Clippers.

Against the Redhawks on the second night, Eason scored a season high 20 points on 6-7 (86%) shooting from the floor. Eason also was 89% (8-9) from the free throw line and finished with 3 rebounds and 4 blocks. Fields scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Freshman Jetmir Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) added 9 points and 4 rebounds and junior Dan Cunningham (Kingston, NY) chipped in 6 points and 5 rebounds.

The Redhawks were led by Ricky Berry, who tallied 21 points on 70% (7-10) shooting from the floor. Michael Knight scored 18 points in just 15 minutes of action for the Redhawks. Michael Wright was a rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Leigh Swanson had 10 points and 5 rebounds for Seattle University, who improve to 7-2 with the victory.

Concordia will stay in the Emerald State and take on the Saints of Saint Martin's University on Sunday, December 30th. The game will begin at 3:00 PM PST.
