Clippers Rally Falls Short 86-76

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College men's basketball team was defeated by the University of New Haven Chargers 86-76 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) scores a game high 25 points and had 4 assists and 6 steals. Sophomores Torrence McGill (Manhattan, NY) and Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) scored 15 points and 12 points, respectively.  Senior Lamont Wilson (Manhattan, NY) had a team high 5 rebounds for the Clippers.

 

 

For New Haven, Tetrick Stonar scored a team high 20 points and D.J. Sackmann scored 16 points. Cassius Chaney and Darryl Greene added 14 points and 13 points, respectively. Charles Thompson had a game high 8 rebounds for the Chargers. In the first half, the Chargers shot an incredible 66.7% (20-30) from the floor, including 9-13 (69.2%) from 3-point range in securing a 56-32 halftime lead.

In the second half, Stonar hit a 3-point shot to give the Chargers their biggest lead at 61-33. Concordia would chip away at the lead, with Fields scoring 20 of his 25 points in the second half. With 1:35 remaining, Fields was fouled on a made basket and swished the subsequent free throw to cut the deficit to 78-68. Concordia, on two seperate occasions would cut the Charger lead to 6 points, but New Haven would ice the game by connecting on 6 of 8 free throws in the final minute.

The loss drops the Clippers record to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the East Coast Conference. New Haven improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will host the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, December 1st at the Meyer Athletic Center. The action will begin at 3:00 PM.
