Dolphins Edge Clippers 78-71
Jacksonville, FL - Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) led all scorers with 21 points in a losing effort to the Jacksonville University Dolphins 78-71 Saturday at Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL. Fields also had a team high 6 assists and 3 rebounds in 40 minutes of play. Junior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) scored 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting, including 2-4 from 3-point range. Senior Lamont Wilson (Manhattan, NY) added 9 points and 7 rebounds and sophomore Torrence McGill (Manhattan, NY) also chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
The Dolphins were ahead 68-50 with 8 minutes remaining. That's when the Clippers went on a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to 72-66. Fields and Wilson accounted for 12 of the 16 Clipper points in the comeback effort. A jumper by Lehmon Colbert put Jacksonvile up by 8 points with 1:29 left to play. Both teams would trade 2 free throws after committing fouls. The Dolphins had the ball with :28 seconds and up 8 points. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) committed his 5th foul, giving Jacksonville 2 free throws. Ben Smith sank both shots to ice the game for Jacksonville with :08 seconds left.
For the Dolphins, Smith had 19 points and 8 assists and Marcus Allen finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Colbert had 12 points and 12 assists and Ayron Hardy finished with 11 points and 8 assists.
The loss drops the Clippers record to 0-2 on the season. Jacksonville University improves to 3-0 overall.
Concordia will return to the Meyer Athletic Center on Wednesday, November 28th to host the Chargers of the University of New Haven. The game will begin at 7:00 PM.
