Men's Basketball Falls to NYIT 78-68

Old Westbury, NY - Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) tied a season high with 28 points, however, the Clippers fell to the Bears of NYIT 78-68 last night in Old Westbury, NY. Fields also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals and was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) turned in his first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Junior Troy Young (Largo, MD) has scored in double-digits in four of his last six games, finishing with 13 points and 3 rebounds in 26 minutes of action. Freshman William Eason (Springfield, MA) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds for the Clippers.

For NYIT, Andre Wright scored a team high 24 points on 6-7 (86%) shooting from the floor, including 4-5 (80%) from 3-point range and 8-8 from the free throw line. Bryant Lassiter had 13 points and 6 rebounds. Miguel Pierre Fanfan and Bryan Smothers chipped in 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

In the first half, both teams traded baskets early on, as neither team was able to lead by more than 5 points during the first 10 minutes of the game. Three consecutive 3-pointers by the Bears put them ahead 31-19 with 06:29 left in the opening half. A couple of baskets by Gaskins III cut the Clipper deficit to single digits before Wright's basket with just under 4 minutes gave the Bears a 38-26 lead. Concordia outscored NYIT 10-1 over the last 03:05 to go into the locker room trailing 39-36.

In the second half, Fields and Young combined for 11 of the first 13 points to give the Clippers a 47-41 lead. NYIT then went on a 28-7 scoring run to take a commanding 69-54 lead with just over 4 minutes remaining. The Clippers would twice cut the deficit to 9 points, but, that would be the closest they would get the rest of the way.

The loss drops the Clippers to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in the East Coast Conference. NYIT improves to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will return to the Meyer Athletic Center on Monday, January 14th to face the Molloy College Lions in ECC action. The game will begin at 7:00 PM.
