Concordia Falls in Overtime to Spartans 63-62
Sparkill, NY - The Concordia College men's basketball team was defeated by the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College 63-62 in overtime last night at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium in Sparkill, NY.
Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) finished with a game high 23 points and sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Junior Alban Shala (Yorktown Heights, NY) had 9 points on 3-4 (75%) shooting from 3-point range and Dan Cunningham (Kingston, NY) and Torrance McGill (Manhattan, NY) each chipped in 6 points. Cunningham also finished with a team high 8 rebounds.
For the Spartans, Akeem Comas had a team high 21 points and connected on a lay-up with three seconds remaining to lift the Spartans to the win. Comas also had a team high 8 rebounds Chris Williams had 14 points and Willis Kettrell and Ra Chase each scored 8 points for St. Thomas Aquinas.
In the overtime period, Comas put the Spartans up by three points at 61-58 with 02:28. A foul committed by Kettrell put Fields on the line, where he swished both shots to bring the Clippers within a point. Both teams would miss shots over the next couple of minutes until Fields put Concordia ahead 62-61 on a jumper with 11 seconds left. Comas would score the games final basket to give the Spartans the win.
With the loss, the Clippers drop to 7-12 overall and 6-6 in the East Coast Conference. St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 10-8 overall and 6-5 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will play 6 of their remaining 8 games at the Meyer
Athletic Center, beginning Saturday, February 2nd, as
they host the Adelphi University Panthers. Adelphi beat the
Clippers 63-59 in Garden City, NY earlier this season on December
5th. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
