Gaskins' Lay-up Gives Clippers 71-70 Win in Overtime
Flushing, NY - Sophomore Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) connected on the winning lay-up in overtime to give the Clippers a 71-70 victory over the Knights of Queens College this past Saturday at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing, NY.
Gaskins III finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the Clippers. Maalik Oliver sank 2 free throws to give the Knights a 70-69 lead with under 5 seconds remaining. Gaskins took the inbounds pass, drove the length of the floor and hit the game-winner for the Clippers. Senior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) finished with a game high 22 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Sophomore Torrance McGill (Manhattan, NY) finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds and freshman William Eason (Springfield, MA) chipped in 6 points and 4 rebounds.
For the Knights, Oliver finished with a team high 16 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Khaleef Allicott and Terrell Simmons each chipped in 12 points and Greg Tull added 10 points and 5 rebounds for the Knights.
The win improves the Clippers record to 6-11 overall and evens their East Coast Conference record at 5-5. Queens College falls to 2-13 overall and 0-8 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to West Haven, CT on Saturday, January 26th to face the University of New Haven Chargers in ECC action. In the last meeting earlier this season, New Haven defeated the Clippers 86-76 back on November 28, 2007 at the Meyer Athletic Center. The action gets underway at 4:00 PM.
