Bronxville, NY - With a spot in the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament on the line, the Chargers of the University of New Haven defeated the Clippers 73-66 today at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers lost their final 5 ECC games to finish 1 game out of the upcoming tournament after qualifying for last season's tournament and advancing to the semi-fianl round. Junior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) scored a game high 23 points, pulled down 4 rebounds and had 7 assists. Senior Jonathan Duperon (Philadelphia, PA) finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was the first double-double of the season for Duperon. Senior Nate Jean-Baptiste (Far Rockaway, NY) finished with a season high 6 assists, to go along with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Junior Lamont Wilson (New York, NY) chipped in 9 points and 4 rebounds.

 

 

For New Haven, Tetrick Stonar finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Cassius Chaney scored 15 points and hauled in 12 rebounds. Kelvin Jackson and Darryl Green scored 10 points and 9 points, respectively.

Four seniors played their final game for the Clippers this afternoon. Duperon, Jean-Baptiste, Bobby Spezzano (Greenwich, CT) and Cameron Johnson (Uniondale, NY) were all presented a commemorative basketball by Head Coach John Dwinell.

With the loss, the Clippers conclude the 2006-2007 season with an overall record of 8-18 and 7-13 in the East Coast Conference. The Chargers improve to 9-18 overall and 8-12 in the East Coast Conference. New Haven will go on to the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament as the 8th seed and travel to NYIT on Wednesday, February 28th.
