Duperon's 19 Points Leads Clippers Past Flyers

White Plains, NY - Senior forward Jonathan Duperon (Philadelphia, PA) scored a seaon high 19 points to lead the Clippers over Mercy College 84-77 last night at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. Duperon shot 64% (7 for 11) from the floor, including a perfect 4 for 4 from behind the 3-point arc and leads Concordia in 3-point shooting at 52% (15 for 29). Juniors Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) and Alphonso Duhart (Hillside, NJ) each scored 17 points and each grabbed 4 rebounds. Freshman Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals for the Clippers.

 

 

Duhart nailed a 3-point shot with 7:15 left in the first half to give Concordia their first lead of the game at 19-18. It also sparked a 29-7 run to close out the first half and push the Clippers lead to 20 points at intermission. Duperon would score 14 of his 19 points in the opening frame.

The first 5 minutes of the second half saw Concordia increase their lead to 31 points, at 60-29, before the Flyers would start their comback. Led by Paul Flowers 14 second half points, the Flyers would chip away at the Clippers lead and eventually cut the deficit to 2 points with 1:33 left in the game. But that would be as close as Mercy would come as Gaskins III would convert on a conventional 3-point play to give Concordia a 80-75 lead with just over a minute to play. Concordia would have opportunities at the free throw line to seal the game. The Clippers went 3 for 6 (50%) in the last minute to clinch the win.

For Mercy College, Flowers finished the game with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Vince Jordan and Devon Mirjah eacg added 12 points. Chanze Wellington chipped in 10 points for the Flyers.

Concordia improves their record to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy College falls to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in The East Coast Conference.

Concordia will step back onto the hardwood on Wednesday, January 10th, as they travel to Old Westbury, NY to face The New York Institute of Technology Bears. The action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
