Clippers Rally to Defeat Lions 71-68
Brookville, NY - Junior Richard Fields (Bronx, NY) scored 21 second half points, as the Clippers rallied from an 18-point, second-half deficit to defeat the Molloy College Lions 71-68 Saturday afternoon in Brookville, NY. Fields finished with a season high 32 points on 12 for 18 (67%) shooting, including 5 for 9 (56%) from 3-point range. Senior Nate Jean Baptiste (Far Rockaway, NY) came off the bench and scored a season high 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in just 26 minutes of action. Senior forward Jonathan Duperon (Philadelphia, PA) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Concordia trailed 46-28 with 15:30 minutes left in the game before Fields would score 14 consecutive points for the Clippers, highlighted by four 3-point baskets. The Clippers trailed 48-42 with 12 minutes remaining. A basket by freshman Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) tied the game at 50-50. Jesus Zapata would answer for the Lions with a lay-up to put Molloy up 52-50. But the Clippers would not be denied, as Jean-Baptiste would hit 3 straight 3-point baskets for the Clippers to put them ahead for good.
Molly was led by Zapata, who finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Keith Tilley and Glenn Martin each added 14 points and Vincent Falzone chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds for the Lions.
The Clippers improve their record to 5-7 overall and 4-3 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy College falls to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to Connecticut on Monday, January 15th to face the Southern Connecticut State University Owls in non-conference action. The game will begin at 7:00 PM
