Clippers Fall 72-62 to Chargers

West Haven, CT - Despite a game high 27 points and 9 rebounds from junior forward Richard Fields (Bronx, NY), the Concordia College men's basketball team lost an ECC game to the University of New Haven Chargers 72-62 last night in West Haven, CT.  Fields, who is fourth in the conference in scoring at 19.0 points per game, shot 40% (8 for 20) for the game and a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Kenny Gaskins III (Bronx, NY) scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and finished with 3 assists. Gaskins came into the week as one of the top point guards in the conference. The freshman is fifth in the ECC in assists, averaging 3.73 assists per game. Senior Jonathan Duperon (Philadelphia, PA) chipped in 10 points for the Clippers on 3 for 6 (50%) shooting from 3-point range. The sharp-shooter is second in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 45% (29 for 64).

For New Haven, Darryl Greene came off the bench to score 16 points. JC Kouame tallied 14 points and 7 rebounds. DJ Sackmann and Tetrick Stonar scored 13 points and 11 points, respectively.

The loss drops the Clippers back to .500 in East Coast Conference play at 5-5 and 6-10 overall. The Chargers improve to 3-13 overall and 2-8 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday, January 27th, as they host the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College. The Clippers defeated the Spartans 63-59 in Sparkill, NY back on November 29th. The game will begin at 3:00 PM.
