BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College baseball team played in their final home games of the regular season on Wednesday as the Clippers battled Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division doubleheader. Concordia managed to take game two against the Eagles as Post won 10-2 in game one, while the Clippers took the nightcap, 6-5.
Game one began with Concordia grabbing a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as junior Tyler Epple (Levittown, N.Y.) hit a two-RBI down the left field line. The Eagles would get on the scoreboard with a lone run in the third inning and tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning. Post scored the go-ahead run in the sixth and would add on a lone run in the seventh as the visitors added three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to lead 10-2. The Clippers were unable to add any more runs to their total as they were held to only three hits in the game.
Sophomore Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) pitched 7.0 innings in the loss as he allowed two earned runs on nine hits while striking out two batters. The bullpen for Concordia completed the final 2.0 innings and allowed six earned runs on six hits.
In the second game the Clippers got off to another fast start as they scored three runs in their first at-bats as Epple drove in two runs while sophomore Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) added an RBI of his own. The Eagles would hit a solo home run in the second inning to cut the deficit to two as Concordia added two more runs as freshman Hermes Abreu (Bayshore, N.Y.) recorded an RBI while junior John Calabrese (Lodi, N.J.) came in to score on a double play.
The top of the fifth saw Post add another lone run to their total as the Clippers maintained a 5-2 advantage. Concordia's final run of the game would come in the bottom of the sixth as junior Jaylin Martinez (Paramus, N.J.) drove in an RBI on a single to right field.
The Eagles used their final at-bats in the seventh to attempt a late comeback with a RBI with one out, and two more RBIs with two outs in the inning to trail 6-5. Sophomore Patrick Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) would record the final out in the inning to pick up his first collegiate save for the Clippers.
Sophomore Enrico Locaseio (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season as he pitched 5.0 innings for Concordia allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out three batters. Freshman Daniel Borysowski (Melville, N.Y.) pitched 1.2 innings of relief as he allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out two batters.
The Clippers (20-23, 16-14 CACC) will close out their regular season tomorrow at Bloomfield College for a pair of CACC games.
