Clippers Fall in CACC Doubleheader to Wilmington (DE), 6-3 and 7-0

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers baseball team faced Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent the Wilmington University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. The Clippers dropped both games in the conference doubleheader, 6-3 and 7-0, as the Wildcats captured their 21st and 22nd victories of the season.

Wilmington jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with two runs to take an early lead in game one. The Wildcats added four more runs in the fourth as Concordia trailed 6-0. The Clippers scored their first run in the home half of the fourth off an RBI single by Chris Rutigliano (Wantagh, NY) which scored Erik Poldroo (New York, NY) on the play.

Concordia added a run in the sixth as Cristian Fiorito's (Yonkers, NY) sacrifice scored Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, NY). The Clippers added their third run of the game in the seventh with an RBI single by Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY). David Velázquez (Queens, NY) crossed the plate on the play as Concordia trailed 6-3.

Wilmington would not allow any more runs to take the three-run victory. Christopher Motta (Bronx, NY) pitched 3.1 innings as he allowed five earned runs on 11 hits in the loss. Andrew Worth (Brewster, NY) finished the remaining 5.2 innings allowing zero runs on four hits while striking out seven batters.

The second game would be controlled by the Wildcats as the team scored seven runs while shutting out the Clippers. Wilmington's David Hatt pitched a complete game allowing only four hits as Concordia could not get their offense going.

Christopher Rodriguez (Queens, NY) suffered the loss for the Clippers as he allowed three earned runs and six hits in 6.0 innings of work. Anthony Barone (New Rochelle, NY) and Salvatore Minichino (Howard Beach, NY) combined to finish the remainder of the game allowing a combined two earned runs on six hits.

The Clippers (8-28, 6-8 CACC) have a couple days off until their next doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. Concordia will host the Post University Eagles on Clipper Baseball Field at 1pm.
